Smuggling module busted in Amritsar: Two smugglers arrested; 6 pistols, heroin, and opium seized

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested two smugglers and busted a major module involved in the cross-border trafficking of illegal weapons and narcotics. The police recovered six sophisticated pistols, one kilogram of heroin, one kilogram of opium, and ₹10,000 in drug money linked to the smuggling operation.

This police action is being hailed as a significant success against a cross-border smuggling network. Preliminary investigations revealed that both accused were in direct contact with a handler based abroad. This handler used to send illegal weapons and narcotics into India via the international border. The role of the accused was to receive these consignments of weapons and drugs and deliver them to criminals and smugglers active in Punjab.

According to the police, the recovered weapons are of a sophisticated nature and could have been used in criminal activities. The police believe that exposing this network in time helped avert several major crimes.

Separate FIRs Registered in Amritsar

Separate FIRs have been registered at the Chheharta and Cantt police stations in Amritsar regarding this case. The police are now conducting intensive interrogation of the arrested individuals to uncover the forward and backward linkages of this network. Additionally, investigations are underway to identify other associates of the foreign-based handler and to determine the geographical extent of the smuggling ring’s network.

The Punjab Police has stated that the campaign against cross-border weapon and drug smuggling networks will continue unabated. The police aim to completely dismantle such gangs and make Punjab safe, crime-free, and drug-free.
