Socio-economic and Drug Census in Punjab

In the Punjab census from Tuesday, in addition to social and economic questions, Punjab citizens and their families will also be asked questions related to drugs. It is well known that the Punjab government is waging a powerful campaign to eradicate the deadly disease of drug addiction in Punjab. Under the “War Against Drugs” campaign, a decisive attack has been launched against the spread of drugs.

The Punjab government’s goal is to root out the drug menace so that Punjab’s youth don’t fall prey to it. Enemies of Punjab and the nation, based across the border in Pakistan, attempt to smuggle consignments of drugs and weapons into the border state of Punjab using drones.

Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Aam Aadmi Party has pledged to make Punjab drug-free. The Punjab government and the Punjab Police are working to eradicate the nefarious drug trade. The Punjab government aims to make Punjab a healthy state by providing free medical care up to Rs 10 lakh. The Mohalla Clinic campaign and its excellent education model are significant efforts to establish Punjab among the leading states. Therefore, to strengthen Punjab’s health and education, eradicating the leprosy of drug addiction from Punjab is the government’s priority. In the final year of its tenure, the Punjab government wants to fulfill its pledge to make the state drug-free, ensuring that Punjab’s youth are completely free from drugs.

Therefore, the Punjab government has decided to assess the extent to which drug abuse has penetrated Punjab. Therefore, a drug-related census will also be conducted in the census. Punjab government census officials will reach out to 6.5 million families and determine how many people or families in the state are affected by drugs. The closer the root of the drug problem is to its roots, the faster it can be eradicated. The information will be kept strictly confidential and will be used to formulate welfare policies. 28,000 employees have been deployed for the census campaign. This census was first conducted as a trial in 11 villages, and was successful. Now, it will be implemented throughout Punjab. Conducting a drug census alongside the general census will allow for more effective assessment of the reach and effectiveness of government drug eradication schemes. We believe this census format will prove very useful for Punjab.
