Chandigarh: Famous Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa has found herself embroiled in a new controversy. The trailer for her new film shows her drinking alcohol and holding a cigarette. The Punjab Artist Forum has raised questions about this.
Sukhminderpal Singh, the forum’s patron, said he has written to the central government and the censor board, demanding a ban on the film. A Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member also objected to the film’s promotion of smoking.
The trailer for Nikka Zaildar 4 was released a week ago.
The trailer for the new Punjabi movie, Nikka Zaildar 4, was released. It stars Sonam Bajwa and Amy Virk in the lead roles. Sonam Bajwa is portrayed as an alcoholic daughter-in-law. The nearly three-minute trailer shows Sonam Bajwa drinking alcohol several times. In one scene, she even holds a cigarette, sparking protests.
The patron of the forum stated that Sikh decorum was violated.
Sukhminderpal Singh, patron of the Punjab Artist Forum, said, “We commend the artists who helped during the floods. However, some artists, while doing good, are violating decorum. Sonam Bajwa, as the daughter-in-law of a Sikh family, is depicted holding a cigarette. This is an insult to Sikh women and Sikh principles.” He stated that a complaint has been filed with the central government and the censor board.
SGPC member Gurcharan Singh Grewal said, “I haven’t seen the film, but we put up big posters saying smoking is harmful to health. These things should not be promoted. It’s wrong to show people drinking and smoking in films like this. If she’s doing this in Sikh attire, it’s very wrong.”
