Tension prevailed in Haryana’s Sonipat district as a group of farmers gathered at the Mini Secretariat to protest against a controversial remark allegedly made by a government officer. The farmers submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC), demanding strict action against the official.
The protest saw participation from several farmer groups, who arrived with a symbolic “jhota” (bullock) to express their anger and highlight their grievances. The demonstration remained largely peaceful but carried strong messages against what the protesters described as an insulting statement targeting the farming community.
The controversy erupted after an officer allegedly made a remark stating that “wherever you find Jat-Jhota, I will hit with a stick.” The statement quickly went viral on social media, triggering outrage among farmers and members of the Jat community.
Protesters termed the remark as highly derogatory and disrespectful, saying it hurt the sentiments of both farmers and a particular community. They demanded immediate disciplinary action against the officer and a public apology.
Farmer leaders warned that if their demands are not met, they will intensify their protest in the coming days. They stated that such remarks from government officials are unacceptable and undermine the dignity of farmers.
Speaking to the media, several protesters said that they have given the administration time to act but will not hesitate to launch a larger agitation if no concrete action is taken. They emphasized that respect for farmers and communities should be maintained at all levels of governance.
During the protest, the farmers handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner outlining their demands. The memorandum called for an immediate inquiry into the matter and strict punitive action against the officer concerned.
Officials assured the protesters that their concerns would be looked into and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. However, no official statement regarding action against the officer had been released at the time of reporting.
The local administration has appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and avoid escalation. Authorities emphasized that the matter is being taken seriously and due process will be followed.
Police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to ensure law and order during the protest.
