Sopore student harassment case sparks uproar, 13 arrested

Sopore: Tension continues to prevail at Sopore’s Government Girls Higher Secondary School following violent protests. During the protests against the alleged sexual harassment of a girl by a teacher, Sopore police have reportedly arrested five more miscreants during a raid that lasted all night. Earlier, eight people had been arrested. In total, 13 accused have been arrested so far, and attempts to apprehend the others are ongoing.

In addition, 13 more criminals have been identified, and efforts are being made to catch them as soon as possible. The police stated that raids and search operations will continue until all the culprits are arrested. The Sopore police said that they will not allow any person to take advantage of sensitive situations to disturb the peace. Strict and legal action will be taken against all those involved in spreading disorder, and no one will be spared.

Teacher accused of sexual harassment of a student

According to the police, a senior teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually harassing a student at a higher secondary school in Sopore. The police provided this information through their ‘X’ handle that during the students’ protest, Sopore police arrested 8 miscreant elements involved in the disturbance. The police said that strict action will be taken against those who disrupt law and order.

It may be noted that on Monday, after the matter came to light, students protested, although overall the situation remained calm. The Director of the Education Department has suspended the accused teacher and ordered an investigation. The Joint Director of the Department (North Kashmir) has been appointed as the inquiry officer for the case and has been asked to submit a report within 15 days.
