New Delhi: Bangladeshi player Mahmudullah has retired from International Cricket. On Wednesday, Mahmudullah announced his retirement on social media platform Facebook. 39-year-old Mahmudullah has already retired from Tests in 2021 and T20Is in 2024. He played a total of 430 international matches.
Mahmudullah is the fourth highest run scorer for Bangladesh in ODIs. He scored 5689 runs at an average of 36.46, including 4 centuries and 32 half-centuries. Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal have scored more runs than Mahmudullah for Bangladesh in ODIs.
Not everything ends well: Mahmudullah
Mahmudullah wrote on his post, ‘I have decided to retire from international cricket. I want to thank all my teammates, coaches and especially my fans who have always supported me. A big thank you to my brother Imdad Ullah, who has been with me since childhood as my coach and mentor.’
He further said, ‘Thanks to my wife and children, who have been with me in every difficult time. I know I will be missed in the red and green jersey. Not everything ends perfectly, but you say yes and move on.’
After the defeat in the Champions Trophy, it was difficult to make a place in the team
After the Champions Trophy, the place of both Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim in the national team came under question. Rahim recently retired from ODIs and now Mahmudullah has done the same. Earlier, Mahmudullah had requested the board not to select him for a central contract after February 2025.
The only Bangladeshi to score 3 centuries in ODI World Cup
Mahmudullah is the only player from Bangladesh to score three centuries in ODI World Cup. Out of these, 2 centuries were scored in the 2015 World Cup and one century in the 2023 World Cup. Mahmudullah represented Bangladesh in 239 ODIs, 50 Tests and 141 T20 matches.
Mahmudullah announced his retirement from T20 format in the series played against India in October. He played his last T20 match against India on 12 October in Hyderabad.
Mushfiqur retired on March 6
Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim also retired from ODI cricket this week. Mushfiqur announced this on his Facebook page. Mushfiqur’s ODI career was 19 years. He has also been the former captain of Bangladesh. Rahim is the only Bangladeshi to have scored three double centuries in Tests. He announced his retirement from T20 after the 2022 World Cup.
