Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has refused to take extra bonus from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Dravid wants the same prize money as the rest of his coaching staff. This means that Dravid has agreed to give up half of the ₹5 crore i.e. ₹2.5 crore.

BCCI has given a cash prize of Rs 125 crore to the T20 World Cup champion team. This prize money has been divided among the players and 42 members of the coaching staff. Out of Rs 125 crore, all 15 members of the team and coach Rahul Dravid are to get Rs 5 crore each.

The rest of the coaching staff will get a share of Rs 2.5 crore each. The support staff with Dravid in the T20 World Cup included Vikram Rathore, Paras Mahambre and T Dilip. But now Dravid wants the same reward as the rest of the staff i.e. ₹ 2.5 crore.

According to the Times of India, a BCCI source said, ‘Rahul wanted the same bonus amount as his support staff. We respect his feelings.’

Dravid became the head coach in November 2021

Rahul Dravid was made the head coach of India in November 2021, when Team India was eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. The team again played the semi-finals in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Dravid’s tenure ended after the ODI World Cup in 2023, but his tenure was extended to the T20 World Cup due to Team India reaching the final. Then Dravid made India the world champion in T20. On June 29, India won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 7 runs.

Under Dravid’s coaching, Team India has also won the Asia Cup in 2023. India won the title by defeating host Sri Lanka.
