Gautam Gambhir proposes Morne Morkel’s name as India’s bowling coach, BCCI yet to decide

Gambhir and Morkel have worked together at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Former South African player and former Pakistan coach Morne Morkel is in the race to become India’s bowling coach. Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir wants Morkel to become India’s bowling coach.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Gambhir has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider Morkel for the post of bowling coach. According to the report, there has been some discussion with Morkel.

Gambhir and Morkel have worked together at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Gambhir has been the mentor of Lucknow for 2 years, while Morkel is still the bowling coach.

Morkel’s international career
Morne Morkel has played international cricket between 2006 and 2018. During this time he has played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs and 44 T20 Internationals.

Morkel has been the bowling coach of the Pakistan cricket team. He resigned from the post of bowling coach of the Pakistan team after a disappointing performance in the World Cup 2023. Morkel joined the team on a six-month contract last June, and resigned before the contract was over.

Apart from Morkel, talks are going on about former Indian team fast bowler Zaheer Khan, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Vinay Kumar. BCCI is also considering the names of these three, although the final decision is yet to be taken by BCCI.
