New Delhi:

In a momentous achievement for Indian sports, the Indian contingent at the ongoing Paris Paralympics has surpassed its medal tally from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. With 21 medals already in hand—three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze—India has set a new record for its highest-ever medal count in Paralympics history. This significant milestone was achieved with four more days of competition still remaining, making the Paris 2024 Paralympics an immensely successful event for the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy and pride over this historic accomplishment. Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “India is proud and delighted! Our incredible Paralympic contingent has set a record for the highest-ever medals for our country in any Paralympics. This shows the dedication, passion, and determination of our athletes. Congrats to each and every player!”

The achievement marks a major leap from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where India had won a total of 19 medals. The remarkable performance in Paris is not just a testament to the athletes’ hard work but also an indication of the growing strength and potential of Indian para-sports on the global stage.

Adding to the celebratory mood, PM Modi also congratulated para-athlete Sachin Khilari, who clinched a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final on Wednesday. Sachin’s impressive 16.32-meter throw not only secured him the second spot but also set a new Asian record.

This 21st medal marks a significant achievement, but the Indian contingent is not done yet. On Monday and Tuesday alone, the team bagged 13 medals, with eight of those coming on Monday. With four more days to go until the conclusion of the Paralympics on September 8, hopes are high that India will add even more medals to its tally.

As the games continue, the nation eagerly awaits further victories, cheering on its athletes who have already made history in Paris.
