Rishabh Pant reprimanded by ICC for Code of Conduct breach

Team India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He has also been given a demerit point.

New Delhi, June 24: Team India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He has also been given a demerit point. The Indian team is on a tour of England. He clashed with the field umpire for changing the ball on the third day of the Headingley Test.

According to the council, Pant has violated Level-1 of the ICC Code of Conduct and for this he has been given one demerit point. No financial penalty has been imposed as a penalty. This was the first offense for Pant in a period of 24 months.

A player is suspended for one match if he receives 4 demerit points within 24 months.

Pant has admitted his mistake and accepted the sanction imposed on him by ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees Richie Richardson.

Third day of the match

Mohammad Siraj came to bowl the 61st over of the English innings. After the third ball of the over, Bumrah complained to the umpire about the ball. He asked the umpire to check the ball by putting it in the ball checker (gauge). However, the ball passed. After this, Harry Brook came forward and hit a four on the fifth ball of the over. After this, Pant also complained to the other umpire about the ball. The ball once again passed the gauge test, but Pant looked angry with this. He threw the ball away in anger. The size of the ball is measured in the gauge test.

What does the Code of Conduct say?

According to the ICC Code of Conduct, Level-1 and Level-2 violations attract 1 to 2 demerit points along with zero to 50 percent of the match fee. Level-3 violations result in a suspension of 6 Tests and 12 ODIs. Pant has been fined 1 demerit point.

Demerit Point stay for 24 months

On the other hand, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points in 24 months, they turn into suspension points, after which the player can be banned for one Test or two ODIs or two T20 matches. Demerit points remain on the record for 24 months, after which they are removed.
