Shubman Gill named new ODI captain for Australia Series, Replacing Rohit Sharma

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has been stripped of the captaincy of India’s ODI team. The Indian squad announced for the three-match ODI series against Australia includes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, but Shubman Gill has been appointed captain. Gill is already the Test captain. Rohit and Virat last played an ODI against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final on March 9th of this year.

Team India will play three ODIs and five T20Is on their tour of Australia. The first ODI will be played in Perth on October 19th. The second match will be played in Adelaide on October 23rd, and the third in Sydney on October 25th. This will be followed by a five-match T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the T20I team.

Rohit-Kohli return after 7 months

Rohit and Kohli are returning to international cricket after a seven-month break, having already retired from T20 and Test cricket.

Bumrah has been rested from ODIs

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the ODI series, while he has been given a place in the T20.
