Mumbai: BCCI is going to give a lifetime award to Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar will be given this award in the annual function at BCCI head office on Saturday, February 1. A board official has confirmed this to PTI. He said- Yes, he (Sachin Tendulkar) will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Tendulkar will be the 31st cricketer to receive this award.
51-year-old Tendulkar has played 664 international matches for India. He holds the record for scoring the most runs in Tests and ODIs. Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches, while he has 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs. Sachin has also played one T20 International match. Earlier in 2023, this award was given to former head coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri.
Why the award for Tendulkar?
Called the greatest batsman of his era, Tendulkar was known for scoring runs with ease in all conditions. He made his Test debut in 1989 against Pakistan at the age of 16 and over the next 20 years scored runs against bowlers from all over the world. He also holds the record for scoring 100 centuries in Tests and ODIs combined. Tendulkar was a key member of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team. This was his record sixth and last World Cup.
Last time Shastri-Engineer got this award
Ravi Shastri and Farooq Engineer, members of India’s World Champion team in 1983, were given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Farooq played 46 Tests and five ODIs for India.

BCCI started this award in 1994 in honor of India’s first captain Colonel CK Nayudu. Nayudu had a 47-year long first class career between 1916 and 1963. This is a world record. Nayudu also served the game as an administrator.
