New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is currently out of Team India. Fans are waiting for his return, which is now going to be possible through IPL 2024. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has revealed that he is preparing a special plan for the return of Rishabh Pant.

Pant is all set to return to cricket in the upcoming season of IPL after receiving the fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy.

Speaking on an episode of The ICC Review, Ponting expressed hope that Pant will lead the team from the start of the tournament, provided his fitness remains intact.

Ricky Ponting said, ‘We have to take a big decision. If Rishabh Pant is fit then we would like him to come forward for captaincy also, but if he is not completely fit then we will try to give him some other role. We still have to take some decisions.

He also said that the wicketkeeper-batsman has put in a lot of effort to make a comeback and his participation in the recent practice sessions suggests that Delhi Capitals are ready to have him on the field against Punjab Kings on March 23 in Mohali.

Ponting said, ‘He has played practice matches in the last few weeks, which is really good for us. I know he has worked hard on his body and his fitness. So that he can come back to the level for which he is known.’

The former Australian captain expressed happiness over Pant’s return in December 2022 after enduring a fatal car accident and months of pain.

He said, ‘I am very happy and have high hopes for Pant’s return. Not only as the coach of Delhi Capitals, but I want to see him playing cricket again.
