Sri Ganganagar Hottest City as Mercury Crosses 46°C; Heatwave to Grip Half of Rajasthan for Next Four Days

Jaipur: Sri Ganganagar emerged as one of the hottest places in the country as temperatures crossed 46 degrees Celsius amid an intense heatwave sweeping across large parts of Rajasthan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in nearly half of the states for the next four days.

Several cities across Rajasthan are witnessing extreme temperatures due to dry westerly winds and clear skies. According to weather reports, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Bikaner and Jodhpur have also recorded temperatures above 44°C, while cities like Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Nagaur continue to face scorching daytime conditions.

Barmer, Jaisalmer and Bikaner Also Reel Under Extreme Heat

Western Rajasthan remains the worst-affected region, with Barmer and Jaisalmer witnessing severe heatwave conditions over the past several days. Bikaner and Phalodi have also reported temperatures close to 46°C, while Churu and Hanumangarh remain under heatwave alert.

In Jaipur and nearby districts, temperatures have continued to rise steadily, increasing discomfort for residents. Weather officials said daytime conditions in several cities resemble a curfew-like situation as roads and markets remain largely deserted during afternoon hours because of the intense heat.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alert for Multiple Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued heatwave warnings for districts including Sri Ganganagar, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Hanumangarh. Authorities have advised people to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

The ongoing heatwave has also increased pressure on electricity supply and water demand across several parts of Rajasthan. Weather officials said relief from the severe summer conditions is unlikely over the next few days.
