Heavy snowfall across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday triggered major disruptions in air travel, leading to the cancellation of around 50 flights to and from Srinagar International Airport, officials said. The cancellations have affected both arrivals and departures, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded as weather conditions deteriorated.
According to airport and aviation sources, 25 inbound and 25 outbound flights were called off on Tuesday due to continuous snowfall and poor visibility. Additional flights scheduled to land were also expected to be cancelled as adverse weather persisted throughout the morning. Passengers were advised to stay in touch with their airlines for updates and alternative travel plans.
The cancellations came at a time when many tourists and holidaymakers were returning from the Republic Day weekend and winter vacations in Kashmir. The snowfall struck key travel days, exacerbating the impact on travelers trying to depart the region.
The ongoing snowfall formed part of a broader cold spell affecting much of the valley, with local authorities warning of continued snow and challenging travel conditions. In some areas, snowfall has also disrupted surface transport, including closures of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, further complicating mobility for residents and visitors alike.
Airport officials reiterated that passenger safety is paramount and that cancellations were necessary due to the unsafe conditions for flight operations. Travelers have been encouraged to regularly check flight statuses with their respective airlines for the latest updates.
