Srinagar’s heatwave breaks records, highest temperature in 10 years in February

Srinagar broke a 10-year heat record in February. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Srinagar on Friday was 20.2 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in February since 2016. The previous high was 20.6 degrees Celsius on February 24, 2016.

Gulmarg recorded a temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius, the highest ever. The previous high was 11.4 degrees Celsius on February 11, 1993. Qazigund recorded 21.0 degrees Celsius, the highest ever. The previous high was 20.7 degrees Celsius on February 28, 2020. Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 18.4 degrees Celsius, the highest recorded here on February 29, 2016.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar on Friday was 20.2 degrees Celsius, 9.2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 0.7 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature in Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, was 21.0 degrees Celsius, 10.9 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 0.4 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees below normal.

The maximum temperature in Pahalgam was 16.5 degrees Celsius, 9.0 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees above normal. Gulmarg recorded a maximum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius, 9.6 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, 5.5 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature was 19.8 degrees in Kupwara, 26.2 degrees in Jammu, 21.8 degrees in Banihal, 20.2 degrees in Batote, 19.0 degrees in Bhaderwah, and 24.7 degrees in Kathua.

No relief for now
According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the weather will be generally dry from February 21st to 24th. There will be light clouds from February 25th to 26th. There will be some cloud cover on February 27th and 28th. There will be light snowfall in some high altitude areas until the night of the 28th. March 1st and 3rd will be generally cloudy, with light snowfall possible in some high altitude areas. March 4th and 7th will be partly cloudy.
