Stalin Warns Centre: Massive Protest Over Delimitation

Chennai, April 14: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday issued a strong warning to the central government over the proposed delimitation exercise, alleging that it is attempting to push through a constitutional amendment without adequate consultation with states. He described the move as a serious threat to federal principles and democratic norms.

Invoking B. R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, Stalin issued a strong message, asserting that Tamil Nadu would fight to protect its rights.

Threat of Massive Agitation

Stalin said Tamil Nadu would launch a massive agitation if the state’s interests are harmed or if southern states face disproportionate impact due to the delimitation process. He emphasized that the state would not remain silent in the face of any injustice and would strongly oppose any move that undermines its rights.

Concerns Over Special Parliament Session

The Chief Minister’s remarks come ahead of a special session of Parliament scheduled for April 16-18, where key amendments, including the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023 and a proposed Delimitation Bill, are expected to be discussed. Stalin alleged that the session is being “forcibly convened” amid ongoing elections in states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Southern States Raise Alarm

Highlighting historical context, Stalin pointed out that southern states had effectively implemented population control measures as advised by the Centre, but are now at risk of being penalized through delimitation. He warned that this could reduce their political representation in Parliament.
