Madhya Pradesh, May 16: After Minister Vijay Shah, now Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy CM Jagdish Devda has ignited a political storm with his recent statement asserting that “the country’s army and soldiers bow at the feet of Prime Minister PM Modi.” This comment has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, with many viewing it as an inappropriate and exaggerated assertion of political loyalty.
The implication that the armed forces, traditionally political and neutral institutions, are subservient to a political leader has raised questions about the separation of powers and the respect due to the military’s independent stature in a democracy.
The Congress party swiftly condemned Devda’s remarks, labelling them an insult to the bravery and independence of the Indian Army. Party leaders emphasised that such statements undermine the military’s apolitical nature and tarnish its esteemed reputation.
This incident adds to a growing list of contentious statements by political figures, drawing further scrutiny in the lead-up to future elections and increasing general concern over the politicisation of national institutions.
