Strong winds expected in Punjab for next two days; no rain & fog alert

The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh will remain clear today. There is no alert for rain or fog. However, strong winds will blow during the day. Despite the sunshine, a feeling of cold will persist.

The maximum temperature increased by 0.3 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours and is now above normal. The highest temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Faridkot, while the lowest temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Hoshiarpur.

Currently, winds are blowing from the northwest direction, i.e., from the mountains towards the plains. These winds are affecting 15 districts of eastern Punjab: Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, and Patiala. Similar winds will continue for the next two days.

Meanwhile, the temperature has risen. The maximum temperature in all districts ranged from 21.8 degrees Celsius to 25.6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the minimum temperature also ranged from 6.8 degrees Celsius to 11.2 degrees Celsius.

Current Weather Conditions

A Western Disturbance over northern Afghanistan and adjoining areas has now moved to northern Pakistan and its surrounding regions. It is active as a cyclonic circulation at an altitude of approximately 3.1 kilometers above sea level.

Along with this, a trough of westerly winds is also present in the upper atmosphere. Furthermore, another new Western Disturbance reached the Western Himalayan region on the night of February 8th. This may cause some weather activity in the hills, but it will not affect Punjab.

Seven Days of Dry Weather Expected

The Director of the Meteorological Department, Surendra Pal Singh, stated that the weather is likely to remain dry for the next 7 days. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperature for the next two days, after which the temperature may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Also, strong surface winds are expected in some areas for the next two days.
