Student’s body found in Punjabi University hostel room, probe on

Very unfortunate news has come out from the campus of Punjabi University, Patiala. The body of a B.Tech student has been recovered from a hostel room here under suspicious circumstances. The deceased student has been identified as Varun Preet Singh, who was a resident of village Ping Kang in district Tarn Taran.

After this incident, a wave of mourning has spread throughout the university campus. On receiving the information, the police of the local police station, Urban Estate, reached the spot and took the body into their possession and have started investigating the matter.

According to the information received, Varun Preet Singh was studying B.Tech at the university. He had earlier applied for a room in the university’s Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Hostel, but later he started living in a paying guest (PG) outside the campus.

The incident came to light on Wednesday night when another student living in the hostel went there to pick up his belongings from a locked room. Varun Preet was lying unconscious inside the room.

Seeing the situation, the student immediately informed the university security personnel. When Varun did not make any movement, the medical team of the campus dispensary was immediately called to the spot. The team of doctors declared him dead after examination.

The university administration, showing promptness, immediately informed the Urban Estate Police Station and the family members of the deceased student. The hostel provost says that nothing can be said about the actual cause of death yet. According to the police, the body has been sent for a postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be known only after the report comes.
