Class 8 Student Dies in Ahmedabad School Stabbing; Protests Erupt Outside Private School

Ahmedabad: A Class 8 student who was stabbed by a Class 10 student outside a private school in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday after a minor scuffle between students escalated, with the accused delivering the fatal stab. Although gravely injured, the youngster managed to return to the school premises, where a security guard alerted authorities and the student was rushed to a hospital in Maninagar.

Police registered an attempted-murder case against the attacker following a complaint from the victim’s mother. In the wake of the death, members of the Sindhi community gathered in large numbers at the school, sparking protests that turned into a ruckus. Crowds clashed with police outside the institution, and vandalism was reported at the school premises.

Parents and members of the Sindhi community, along with some protesters, criticized the school administration for purportedly ignoring repeated misconduct complaints. They alleged that boys used abusive language, made obscene gestures, molested girls, carried knives and phones, and even watched pornography in the computer room, with the administration allegedly resolving issues by summoning parents, obtaining written apologies, and letting students off with little or no punishment.

One parent told ANI that similar incidents had been surfacing over the past two years, with concerns about bus behavior and indiscipline. She claimed knives and mobile phones were found in student bags, and a boy had recently been caught viewing explicit sites in the computer room, criticizing the administration for lax action.

Family members and protesters also vandalised the school premises, according to PTI. In a late-night briefing, DCP Crime Branch Sharad Singhal described the sequence: two students were involved in a quarrel yesterday, one stabbed the other, who died. He noted that people protested outside the school and vandalism occurred, but said the situation was currently under control. He added that the child’s antim yatra (funeral procession) would take place later in the evening, with police on duty.
