26 Killed in Two Separate Attacks in Sudan’s South Kordofan

Khartoum: At least 26 people were killed and dozens injured in two separate attacks in Sudan’s South Kordofan State, according to multiple sources.

More than 21 people, including women and children, were killed and others injured on Thursday afternoon in an attack by forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) on Debi and Luwairi, areas south and west of Kauda, the Sudan Doctors Network said.

The volunteer medical group reported that the attack was carried out by SPLM-N forces, which are described as an ally of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

21 killed in attacks on Debi and Luwairi

The Sudan Doctors Network said the attack on Debi and Luwairi violated a ceasefire agreement reached in late August. The group accused SPLM-N of targeting civilians and condemned the attack.

A medical source at a rural hospital in Debi said more than 20 bodies and 11 injured people had reached the facility following the attack. Civilians were also reported to have fled the area amid fears of worsening humanitarian conditions.

SPLM-N has not commented on the allegations.

Five killed in artillery shelling in Dilling

In a separate incident early Friday, five people, including a child, were killed and others injured in artillery shelling by SPLM-N forces in the city of Dilling, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.

An eyewitness said artillery shells struck residential neighbourhoods in Dilling, killing about five civilians and injuring more than seven people.

Fighting continues in Sudan’s Kordofan region

SPLM-N, established in 2011, controls parts of South Kordofan and Blue Nile State. Sudan’s Kordofan states have witnessed fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on one side and the RSF and SPLM-N on the other.

The fighting is part of Sudan’s broader conflict that began in April 2023. The conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed thousands of people and displaced millions within Sudan and across its borders.
