Badal wrote, “It is a pleasure to welcome senior Congress leader and former Jalalabad MLA Raminder Singh Awla into the Shiromani Akali Dal.”
Mentioned the development work done by the Akali governments in Jalalabad
Referring to his association with Jalalabad, Sukhbir Badal said that this assembly constituency gave him the opportunity to serve the people here three times. He claimed that extensive development work had taken place in the area during the Akali Dal governments.
He said that Awla’s joining the party would strengthen the Akali Dal’s organization in Jalalabad and the entire border region. Badal expressed confidence that Awla would work with full force to ensure the party’s victory.
Sukhbir Badal met the Governor, demanded the removal of the Chief Minister
A day earlier, an Akali Dal delegation led by Sukhbir Singh Badal met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. During this, the delegation submitted a memorandum containing four key demands.
Sukhbir Badal posted on X that the delegation met the Governor regarding the murder of martyr Bhai Parvinder Singh Jhotha. They demanded the removal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from his post and immediate action against ministers, MLAs, and officials allegedly patronizing the drug trade.
Badal wrote in his post that the memorandum included demands for the immediate dismissal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and action against ministers, MLAs, and officials accused of patronizing the drug trade.
Demand for a government job and compensation of ₹2 crore for Jhota’s wife
The Akali Dal also demanded in the memorandum a first-class government job for Bibi Manpreet Kaur, wife of martyr Bhai Parvinder Singh Jhota, and compensation of ₹2 crore on humanitarian grounds.
However, Sukhbir Badal also clarified that, according to him, the family and the Action Committee had not made this compensation demand.
Demand for expanding the scope of the CBI investigation
The Akali Dal demanded that the scope of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation be expanded to include two other cases.
These include the case of Gulzar Singh of Toor Banjara in Dirba, whom Badal claimed had named Finance Minister Harpal Cheema in his dying declaration.
The second case is that of Bikramjit Singh of Sri Hargobindpur Sahib. According to Badal, he was murdered with sharp weapons for opposing the drug trade.
The Akali Dal demanded that both these cases be investigated by the CBI so that the related incidents could be thoroughly investigated.
