Sukhbir Badal Questions Silence of Punjab Govt, CBI’s Actions in DIG Harcharan Bhullar Bribery Case

Amritsar: Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar was arrested by the CBI in a bribery case. Crores of rupees and jewellery were recovered from his home. However, the agency hasn’t sought even a single day’s remand in court. Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has now raised questions about this matter, asking why a remand wasn’t sought. Meanwhile, the Punjab government remains silent on the matter. Is an attempt being made to suppress the entire case or to protect someone?

In a scathing post on his official account on platform X (formerly Twitter), Badal questioned the silence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and raised serious concerns about a possible cover-up in the case.

Sukhbir Badal mainly raised three points

1. Why have you been silent for 48 hours?

-The CBI arrested a DIG in Punjab, and during a search, they recovered ₹7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold, 25 luxury watches, and documents for over 50 immovable properties. These images have shocked everyone in the state, but the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, remains silent even after 48 hours! Why?

2. Why did the CBI not take remand?

What was the Vigilance (under the Chief Minister) doing or did they have to turn a blind eye on the Chief Minister’s instructions? Another unprecedented incident that has forced the people of the state to think is that despite such a huge recovery, the CBI did not seek even a day’s police remand of the DIG!

3. Whose coffers was the money meant to fill?

How do we know where the money came from and whose coffers it was ultimately intended to fill? Has a cover-up or security operation been launched?

CM’s Silence Raises Eyebrows

Highlighting that 48 hours had passed since the arrest and massive recovery, the SAD chief lashed out at CM Bhagwant Mann’s continued silence, asking whether an effort was being made to suppress the case or protect senior officials and political interests.
