Himachal Politics: CM Sukhu Meets Kharge, Cabinet Expansion and Minister Dispute Discussed

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. This meeting comes amid heated discussions in the state’s political landscape regarding minister-official disputes, cabinet expansion, and organizational formation.

Kharge Advises Unity, Cabinet Coordination

According to sources, the two leaders also discussed the political turmoil in the state following Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh’s recent statement. National President Mallikarjun Kharge advised the Chief Minister to resolve the issue through cabinet coordination. He stressed the need to prevent public disagreements and maintain organizational unity.

Cabinet Expansion and Reshuffle Discussed

Sources indicate that during this meeting, discussions were held regarding the expansion of the Congress organization and the cabinet. A ministerial position in the Sukhu cabinet has been vacant for a long time. Despite the Congress government completing three years, this position remains unfilled. Consequently, it is believed that a cabinet reshuffle could soon fill the vacant position. There is also talk that one minister could be dropped and his son could be appointed to the government’s boards and corporations. If this happens, two MLAs will have the opportunity to become cabinet ministers.

Sunder Thakur Emerges as Front-Runner

Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur is said to be the frontrunner for a cabinet position. Thakur previously served as Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) in this government, but was forced to resign following High Court orders. In addition, Jwalaji MLA Sanjay Ratna and Palampur MLA Ashish Butail are also being considered potential ministers. If one minister is dropped, Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi, a close confidante of Chief Minister Sukhu, could also be in the running.

Deputy Speaker Post Also on Agenda

The position of Deputy Speaker is also up for filling. This position has been vacant since Congress MLA Vinay Singh became party president. Discussions have also been held with the National President regarding the Deputy Speaker and other political appointments.
