‘Sunam Mega Job Fair’ Brings Opportunities for Youth: 562 Selected, 618 Shortlisted

Taking another significant step towards connecting the youth with employment, the Punjab government organized a mega job fair in Sunam. Thousands of young people participated in the event, where various private companies conducted on-the-spot recruitment and offered job opportunities to hundreds of candidates.

Aman Arora, Minister for Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training, stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is continuously working to create new employment opportunities for the youth and establish better coordination with industries.

61 Companies Participated

Sixty-one reputed national and state-level companies participated in this mega job fair, which was organized for the cluster comprising Sangrur, Malerkotla, and Barnala districts. A total of 2,129 youths applied for jobs at the fair.

During the recruitment process, 562 candidates were selected, while another 618 youths were shortlisted by companies for further processing. Selected candidates were handed ‘Letters of Intent’ on the spot.

Jobs Offering Salaries Ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹42,000

Candidates aged between 18 and 50 years participated in the job fair. Based on their qualifications and experience, selected youths secured opportunities for positions offering monthly salaries ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹42,000. The Punjab government states that such events are becoming an effective medium for establishing direct contact between the youth and industries.

Opportunities for Youth with Diverse Educational Qualifications

The job fair saw participation from youths with various educational backgrounds, including those who had passed the 10th and 12th grades, as well as holders of ITI, diploma, and bachelor’s degrees (including B.Com, B.Sc. Non-Medical, and mechanical/electrical trades) and those who had completed CNC courses. The Punjab government provided diverse employment opportunities tailored to candidates with varying skill sets and educational backgrounds. Punjab Government Focuses on Boosting Private Sector Employment

Minister Aman Arora stated that it is not feasible to provide employment to all youth solely through government jobs. Therefore, the Punjab government is fostering an industrial environment where the private sector can also generate large-scale employment opportunities.

He noted that the Department of Employment Generation and the Department of Industries are working together to establish better coordination between companies and job-seeking youth.

Major Companies Conduct Recruitment

Several prominent industrial and manufacturing companies participated in the job fair. These included firms from sectors such as automobiles, agricultural equipment, textiles, and food processing, all of which conducted recruitment drives for various positions.

Claims of Transparency in Government Recruitment

The Cabinet Minister stated that over the past four and a half years, the state government has provided approximately 70,000 government jobs to eligible candidates through a transparent process. He asserted that there was absolutely no room for recommendations or bribery in the recruitment process.

Growing Opportunities in IT and Industrial Sectors

Responding to a question regarding the IT sector, the Minister mentioned that Mohali has already established itself as the state’s primary IT hub. Additionally, a large number of young people are employed in private companies in cities such as Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar. He stated that the government’s objective is to create an environment in the state where youth can find employment opportunities that align with their qualifications.
