Sunshine reduces cold in Punjab-Chandigarh; Rain likely at isolated places

Punjab and Chandigarh have been experiencing bright sunshine daily for the past several days. The cold has subsided, but it remains slightly chilly at night. This situation will persist until the 15th. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and light rain, are expected at isolated locations on the 16th and 17th.

The maximum temperature has increased by 0.8 degrees in the last 24 hours, reaching 3.1 degrees above normal. The highest temperature was recorded in Faridkot at 27.3 degrees, the highest recorded in February so far this year.

There is also a possibility of hailstorms along with rain.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain will begin in Amritsar on the 16th and 17th in Punjab. It will then spread to Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moga, and move eastward. This system will gradually move through Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Barnala, Mansa, Patiala, and Ludhiana by the 18th.

This means the rain will be passing rain, not drizzle, throughout the day. This type of weather activity will continue, and if thunderstorms form, strong winds may also occur. Hailstorms are possible in isolated areas.

Two new western disturbances will become active tomorrow.

According to the Meteorological Department, the western disturbance is currently active as a wave with westerly winds blowing in the middle and upper sky. It is located at an altitude of about 5.8 kilometers above sea level, approximately 77° East longitude and 30° North latitude.

Two new western disturbances are expected to arrive in the western Himalayas, the first from February 13, 2026, and the second from February 16, 2026. This could change the weather in the mountainous regions.
