The ‘Mukhyamantri Maavan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has emerged as a symbol of dignity and self-reliance for women in the state aged 100 years or older. The financial assistance provided under the scheme goes beyond mere monetary support; it instills a sense in these elderly women that society and the government still value their contributions.

Financial Aid Boosts Self-Confidence

For many women in the twilight of their lives, this financial assistance has provided an opportunity to manage their own expenses, whether big or small. Many beneficiaries note that they receive this amount in addition to their old-age or widow pensions, offering significant extra support to their financial situation.

After completing the application process with the help of family members, the funds were deposited directly into their bank accounts, which has also boosted their self-confidence.

109-Year-Old Bharpur Kaur’s Self-Reliant Outlook

Bharpur Kaur, a 109-year-old resident of Sangrur, availed the scheme’s benefits with her family’s assistance. She plans to spend a portion of the money on her daughters’ needs and use the remainder to purchase a hearing aid.

She mentions that despite her advanced age, she still performs most household chores herself, and this assistance has given her a sense of freedom in making her own decisions.

Aid Helping Meet Family Needs

Jasmel Kaur, a 102-year-old from Faridkot, used the funds received from the scheme for her medicines and family requirements. Meanwhile, 110-year-old Mukhtiar Kaur from Kotkapura utilized the financial aid for essential household expenses. These women believe that the scheme provides them with a sense of dignity alongside financial support.

Assistance for Wheelchairs and Medical Treatment

The family of 102-year-old Pritam Kaur from Moga purchased a wheelchair for her using the funds received from the scheme and spent the remaining amount on medicines. The family says that this has made their daily routine easier than before. Similarly, 102-year-old Angrej Kaur used the money to buy her medicines and a new suit, and also spent some of it on other family members.
