Solar revolution expands nationwide: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India’s solar revolution is now reaching every corner of the country, driven by the success of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. He highlighted that the scheme is transforming how households consume energy by making solar power more accessible and affordable.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to clean energy while empowering citizens to become energy producers.

Massive growth in rooftop solar adoption

The Surya Ghar scheme has seen rapid expansion since its launch in 2024. Government data shows that over 26 lakh rooftop solar systems have already been installed across India, marking a significant milestone in the country’s clean energy journey.

The scheme aims to solarize one crore households by 2026-27, making it one of the world’s largest residential solar initiatives.

PM Modi noted that such widespread adoption reflects growing public awareness and participation in renewable energy efforts.

Financial support making solar affordable

A key feature of the scheme is its financial assistance model, which provides subsidies to households installing rooftop solar panels. The government offers up to 40% subsidy, significantly reducing installation costs and encouraging wider adoption.

Additionally, beneficiaries can access affordable loans and simplified application processes, making solar energy viable even for middle- and lower-income families.

The scheme also enables households to save on electricity bills and, in many cases, generate surplus power.

Empowering households with clean energy

The PM Surya Ghar initiative is designed to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to households, improving energy security and reducing dependency on conventional power sources.

By promoting rooftop solar, the government is not only reducing carbon emissions but also encouraging self-reliance among citizens. The Prime Minister stressed that this shift is crucial for building a sustainable future.

Public participation driving success

PM Modi underlined that the success of the solar revolution lies in “Jan Bhagidari” (people’s participation). He said that citizens across urban and rural areas are actively embracing solar energy solutions, turning the scheme into a mass movement.

The growing number of applications and installations highlights how environmental awareness and economic benefits are motivating people to adopt solar power.

India’s push towards a greener future

India is among the fastest-growing solar power markets globally, with installed solar capacity crossing 143 GW in recent years.

The Surya Ghar scheme is expected to play a crucial role in achieving the country’s renewable energy targets and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that continued public participation and government support will ensure that the solar revolution reaches every household, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable India.
