Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case: Bombay HC directs NCB to return Rhea Chakraborty’s passport

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has granted major relief to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, directing the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to return her passport.

Rhea was arrested in 2020 in a drugs-related probe following the demise of her then-boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She was granted bail a month later on the condition that she surrender her passport to the NCB.

Recently, Rhea filed a fresh application through her lawyer Ayaz Khan, who argued that the restriction was affecting her career. The actress had missed several work opportunities as she was unable to travel abroad for shoots, auditions, and meetings.

NCB’s Objection and Court’s Observation

The NCB opposed the plea, arguing that being a celebrity does not entitle anyone to special privileges and raised concerns about the risk of absconding. However, Justice Neela Gokhale observed that other accused in the case had been granted similar relief. The court also noted that Rhea had fully cooperated with the investigation, complied with bail conditions, and returned to India after every foreign trip without incident.

Conditions Imposed

While allowing the plea, the court imposed strict conditions:

• Rhea must provide the NCB with an active mobile number.

• She must inform the agency before every foreign trip, sharing her full travel itinerary, including flight and hotel details, at least four days before departure.

• Her phone must remain switched on, and she must notify the agency upon her return.

• She is required to appear before the trial court on all given dates and cooperate for speedy disposal of the case.
