Gaya (Bihar): A major health scare was reported from Gurua block in Bihar’s Gaya district on Friday night after more than 40 people fell ill following a Tilak ceremony in Dhana Bigha village, officials said on Saturday.

Sudden illness triggers panic after ceremony meal

According to officials, a large number of villagers had gathered for the ceremony, but soon after consuming food, several attendees began experiencing symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and restlessness. The situation escalated quickly, creating panic in the village.

Patients admitted, health teams rushed for emergency response

Most of the affected were admitted to the Community Health Centre in Gurua, while others were taken to nearby private hospitals. Health authorities responded swiftly by sending ambulances and starting emergency treatment. Doctors confirmed that the symptoms are consistent with food poisoning, and all patients are currently stable.

Investigation underway, food samples collected

Locals alleged that the food served at the ceremony was of poor quality and possibly contaminated. The Health Department has launched an investigation, collected food samples, and assured strict action if negligence is found.
