Suspended Punjab DIG Bhullar granted Regular bail in DA Case

A CBI court in Chandigarh on Monday granted bail to suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a disproportionate assets case, providing him with significant relief. The court’s decision came because the CBI failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated 60-day period.

During the hearing, advocate Narinder Singh, appearing for the CBI, argued in court that a 90-day legal timeframe applies to serious cases like disproportionate assets. However, the court did not accept this argument and agreed with the defense’s submissions. Bhullar will, however, remain in jail in connection with another case.

Default bail granted due to failure to file chargesheet within 60 days

Senior advocates SPS Bhullar, Yuvraj Dhaliwal, and Samrita, representing Bhullar, informed the court that the CBI had failed to file the chargesheet within the prescribed 60-day period. Therefore, the accused was entitled to default bail under the law.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court initially reserved its order and later granted Bhullar’s bail application. The defense also furnished sureties as part of the bail formalities.
