Ludhiana Police crack IED bomb scare case; Two suspects detained

Ludhiana: An improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from a suspicious bag at a bag shop in the Basti Jodhewal area of ​​Ludhiana, Punjab. Police had been investigating the bag since Wednesday night and confirmed it to be explosive on Thursday afternoon.

The owner of the shop where the bag was found said that about four days ago, a suspicious man came to the shop to buy a briefcase. He gave the shopkeeper 500 rupees in advance and promised to come back shortly to collect the briefcase. He left the bag he had brought with him in the shop.

Last night, when the smell of petrol emanated from the bag, the shopkeeper alerted the building owner. Rinku, the owner of the building, Harbans Tower, noticed the suspicious bag and immediately informed the police at Daresi police station.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. Finding the situation suspicious, the police informed Commissioner Swapan Sharma and the bomb squad. The bomb squad arrived shortly after and seized the recovered bag.

Police have detained two people in connection with this case. During interrogation, they revealed that they were learning how to make bombs from YouTube. They also had a personal grudge against the shopkeeper, which led them to place explosives in the shop.

The employee said – the accused had come wearing a mask on his face

Shop employee Sunny said that a man came into the shop wearing a mask. He offered a briefcase. He said he wanted to buy something from the market. He had a box with him. He said the box contained a children’s car. After saying this, the man left the shop. About four days later, when the smell of petrol emanated from the shop, the police were informed. Petrol pouches and some wires were found in the bag. The police seized the suspicious items.

Bomb squad investigates

The bomb disposal squad arrived at Daresi police station. They opened the box and examined it. Police found approximately 5 to 6 liters of petrol in the box. A battery, some wires, and a dialer were recovered. Police officials have maintained silence as the matter is suspicious. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma personally questioned prominent figures and several shopkeepers in the Basti Jodhewal area for approximately three and a half hours.
