‘Swami’ Chaitanyanand Saraswati produced in Delhi court

New Delhi: ‘Swami’ Chaitanyanand Saraswati, also known as Partha Sarathy, was produced before the Patiala House Court on Sunday after being arrested from a hotel in Agra earlier in the day.

Allegations Against the Accused

Chaitanyanand, director of the reputed Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, is facing criminal charges for allegedly targeting female students enrolled in post-graduate management diploma courses under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) scholarship.

Investigators said he would allegedly call female students to his room late at night and threaten to fail them or reduce their grades if they resisted his advances.

History of Misconduct

The accused reportedly fled on August 4, shortly after the institute received a complaint from the Indian Air Force headquarters accusing him of molestation. Police have recorded statements from three wardens of the institute, all allegedly complicit in deleting incriminating messages.

WhatsApp chats recovered from about 50 female students revealed incidents of abuse spanning 16 years, including sexually explicit texts and forced physical contact.

Evidence Under Investigation

Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the institute, with the DVR sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory. Seventeen women filed complaints at Defence Colony Police Station in early August, accusing Chaitanyanand of harassment.

Officials claim he has been preying on women for nearly two decades, having escaped previous molestation charges in 2009 and 2016.

Flight, Bail, and Luxury Car Controversy

At the time of the complaints, Chaitanyanand was in London, later traced to Agra. He filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Delhi High Court, which he soon withdrew.

Police also recovered multiple forged number plates from his luxury red Volvo car, all bearing fake United Nations insignia. Investigations confirmed none of the plates were genuine. The car has been seized as part of the ongoing probe.

Fake Diplomatic Claims

Chaitanyanand possessed two visiting cards portraying false credentials. On one card, he claimed to be a BRICS Commission Member and “Special Envoy from India”, while the other card described him as a “Permanent Ambassador” to the UN.
