    Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bust Vandalised Ahead of Amit Shah’s Kolkata Visit

    Kolkata: A bust of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee was allegedly vandalised in Kolkata a day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the city to participate in the leader’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations, police said on Sunday.

    According to police, the lower portion of the altar on which the bust was installed at Sukea Street in central Kolkata was found damaged on Sunday morning.

    Bust Was to Be Inaugurated on Monday

    The bust had been installed as part of preparations for Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s birth anniversary celebrations and was scheduled to be inaugurated by BJP leaders on Monday.

    Officials said the installation work, including the name plaque, was completed on Saturday night. However, the structure was found damaged the following morning.

    Police said the incident occurred after midnight and have begun examining CCTV footage from the area to identify those responsible.

    BJP Condemns Incident

    The BJP strongly condemned the alleged act of vandalism. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has lodged a complaint at Amherst Police Station, seeking action against those involved.

    Amit Shah to Attend Birth Anniversary Events

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Monday to attend the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

    According to the BJP, Shah will first visit Mookerjee’s residence in Bhowanipore to pay floral tributes before travelling to Eco Park in New Town, where he will lay the foundation stone for a 125-foot statue of the Jana Sangh founder.

    He will later participate in a commemorative event at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan before returning to New Delhi.

    The BJP has also organised several programmes across Kolkata to mark the occasion.
