Under attack from opposition parties for inviting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 leaders’ summit, the Canadian government has justified the decision, saying that the G7 is a critical forum for discussions between global leaders and stressed the importance of building “coalitions with reliable partners” with “common values”.
