Tamil Language Strengthens India’s Unity: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that continuous efforts are being made to promote the Tamil language in India and abroad.
In his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, he mentioned that commendable steps are being taken to spread the Indian language and culture in Fiji, thousands of kilometers away.

He said, “Continuous work is being done at many levels in Fiji to connect the new generation with the Tamil language. Recently, Tamil Day was celebrated for the first time in a school in Raki-Raki, Fiji, where children recited poems in Tamil, gave speeches, and proudly presented their culture on stage.”

Tamil language education is receiving a new impetus within the country

The Prime Minister stated that special attention is being paid to the promotion of Tamil in India as well.

He mentioned the recently concluded fourth “Kashi Tamil Sangamam” in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, which placed special emphasis on learning the Tamil language.

He also played an audio clip of children speaking Tamil.

He said, “You will be surprised to know that these children, who speak Tamil so fluently, are from Kashi, and their mother tongue is Hindi. Their love for the Tamil language inspired them to learn it.”

He explained that special campaigns were conducted in more than 50 schools in Varanasi under the theme “Learn Tamil – Tamil Karakalam,” and the positive results are visible in children’s language skills.

Ancient Heritage Strengthens Cultural Ties

Prime Minister Modi said that Tamil is the world’s oldest language and has a rich literature.

He also mentioned that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, launched in 2022, aims to rekindle the historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, which is receiving significant energy from children and youth.

He said, “Interest in the Tamil language is growing in other parts of the country as well—this is the strength of the language, this is the unity of India.”
