Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government on Friday, reviewing 436 projects and welfare schemes aimed at accelerating development and improving governance across the state. The meeting marked a significant step in setting the new government’s administrative priorities.

First Cabinet Meeting Sets Governance Agenda

During the meeting, the Cabinet reviewed a wide range of initiatives spanning youth development, women’s welfare, farmers’ welfare, fishermen’s welfare, infrastructure, and social development. The government outlined a roadmap for implementing the schemes through various departments with clearly defined objectives and targets.

436 Schemes to Drive Development Across Departments

Speaking after the meeting, Energy and Law Minister R. Nirmalkumar said ministers would work closely with departmental secretaries to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) and ensure timely execution of the approved schemes. The initiatives are expected to focus on inclusive growth and improved public service delivery.

Focus on Welfare and Drug-Free Tamil Nadu

The government also reiterated its commitment to welfare programmes and strengthening measures against narcotics. According to officials, anti-drug enforcement efforts have been intensified as part of the administration’s vision of creating a drug-free Tamil Nadu. The schemes will be monitored through the Department of Special Programme Implementation to ensure effective coordination and periodic review.

Government Signals Proactive Start

The Cabinet review comes less than a month after Vijay assumed office and follows several early governance initiatives undertaken by the new administration. The comprehensive review of 436 schemes is being seen as an attempt to fast-track policy implementation and deliver on key commitments made during the election campaign.
