Tarn Taran Murder: Man Stabbed 83 Times in 37 Seconds Over Love Marriage; Wife’s Two Brothers Accused

Tarn Taran: A young man was allegedly murdered in Tarn Taran after being attacked by two brothers of his wife, around a month after the couple eloped and married against their families’ wishes, police said.

The incident took place outside a bus stand, where the victim, identified as Jagjit Singh, was allegedly attacked with knives by his wife’s brothers, Jaspreet Singh and Harpreet Singh.

A video of the attack, which reportedly lasted around 37 seconds, has surfaced. Police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Victim allegedly lured to bus stand

According to the information available, Jagjit Singh, a resident of Kadhgil village, worked as a DJ. He lived at his maternal grandparents’ home in Naurangabad village, where he met and fell in love with Jashanpreet Kaur.

The couple reportedly eloped and got married about a month ago despite opposition from both families.

Following the marriage, the matter was taken up before the village panchayat. According to the victim’s family, an understanding was reached under which Jashanpreet was sent back to her parents’ home.

About a week before the murder, Jagjit reportedly brought his wife to Kadhgil village at the request of her father.

On Sunday morning, Jagjit allegedly received a call from his mother-in-law, Kulwinder Kaur, asking him to come to the bus stand for a discussion.

He reportedly left on his motorcycle and was carrying a cold drink and samosas for his mother-in-law.

    Two brothers allegedly attack him

According to the allegations, Jagjit was intercepted outside the bus stand by Jashanpreet’s brothers, Jaspreet Singh and Harpreet Singh.

The two allegedly attacked him with knives after he parked his motorcycle by the roadside.

According to the victim’s family, the assault involved dozens of stab wounds. A passerby reportedly managed to apprehend one of the accused, Jaspreet Singh, while Harpreet Singh fled from the spot.

Police subsequently reached the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.

Wife detained, absconding accused being traced

Police have also detained Jashanpreet Kaur in connection with the investigation. Her mobile phone is reportedly being examined as investigators seek to establish the sequence of events leading up to the attack.

The police have launched raids to trace Harpreet Singh, who remains absconding.

Jagjit’s maternal uncle, Jaj Singh, alleged that the victim had been receiving threats before the murder. He has sought an investigation into the possible role of other family members, including the victim’s father-in-law Balwant Singh and mother-in-law Kulwinder Kaur.

The allegations have not been independently established, and police are investigating all aspects of the case.

    Family alleges murder was planned

Jagjit’s mother, Lavpreet Kaur, alleged that her son had been under threat following the marriage. She claimed that Jashanpreet had trapped her son and that her brothers carried out the attack.

Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to arrest the absconding accused. Further details are awaited.
