Tarn Taran Case: Weak Defense in FIR Leads to Suspension of Two Punjab Police DSPs

Chandigarh: After the suspension of Tarn Taran SSP, two DSPs of Punjab have also been suspended. These include DSP (Detective) Harjinder Singh and DSP (PBI) Gulzar Singh.

The action relates to a case filed against the daughter of an Akali Dal candidate and the IT wing in charge. The court found the explanations given by both the officers regarding the registration of the case in the High Court and the arrest of the IT wing in charge unsatisfactory.

The action comes after the DGP appeared before the Election Commission.

A day earlier, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav appeared before the Election Commission in New Delhi. Following this, orders were issued to suspend the two DSPs.

Earlier, three days before the Tarn Taran by-election, the Election Commission had suspended SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal.

Case was registered against Akali candidate’s daughter and IT wing in charge

According to reports, the Tarn Taran police had registered a case against Akali candidate Sukhjinder Kaur Randhawa’s daughter Kanchanpreet, Akali Dal IT wing in-charge Nachhatar Singh and a total of 25 others during the elections.

Following this, the Tarn Taran police also arrested Nachhatar Gill from Amritsar. However, the High Court granted him bail.

Questions were raised due to a lack of a satisfactory explanation for the arrest

According to police sources, the main reason for the High Court granting bail to Nachhatar Gill was that the police failed to present a satisfactory justification for the arrest. This raised serious questions on the actions of the police.
