Tateeree Song Row: Singer Badshah to appear before Women’s Commission Today

Amidst the controversy surrounding the Haryanvi song ‘Tateeree,’ singer Badshah is scheduled to appear today before the Haryana State Commission for Women. The Commission has scheduled the hearing for this matter on March 13 at 11:30 AM in the conference hall of the District Deputy Commissioner’s office in Panipat.

Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia stated, “I will be present at the office from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM; during this time, Badshah must appear before the Commission and provide an alternative interpretation for the objectionable word used in the song.”

Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia emphasized that this is an extremely serious matter, noting that the words used in the song have been deemed offensive to the dignity of women. She asserted, “This amounts to tarnishing the honor of our mothers and daughters; therefore, it will not be condoned under any circumstances.”

Renu Bhatia categorically stated that whether Badshah appears or not, the Commission will proceed with action in either scenario. Issuing a stern warning, she added that attempts to evade the proceedings by repeatedly seeking adjournments will not be tolerated. If deemed necessary, the Commission will not only issue a formal notice against him but will also recommend the confiscation of his passport and a ban on his international travel.

This matter came to light following a complaint filed by Savita Arya, a social activist from Panipat, and Shiv Kumar, Director of the Shiv Aarti India Foundation. The complaint alleged that the song ‘Tatihari’—which is purported to be based on Haryanvi culture—contains certain words that violate social decency and undermine the dignity of women.

The Commission has also dispatched a letter to the Superintendent of Police, Panipat, issuing directives to ensure the presence of all individuals named in the summons during the hearing.
