Jammu Launches Boating Service at Tawi Riverfront for Amarnath Pilgrims, Tourists

Jammu: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched boating services at the Tawi Riverfront, offering a new recreational attraction for tourists and devotees visiting the city during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026.

The initiative is aimed at promoting the Tawi Riverfront as a major tourism destination while enhancing the overall experience for pilgrims travelling to the holy Amarnath cave shrine.

Shikaras, Paddle and Speed Boats Introduced

JMC Commissioner Devansh Yadav said the newly launched boating facility includes shikaras, paddle boats and speed boats, adding to the range of attractions already available at the riverfront.

According to the civic body, visitors can also enjoy the Tawi Aarti, evening light and sound shows, and other cultural activities designed to make the riverfront a vibrant public space.

Online Booking and Safety Measures

Authorities have introduced an online booking system to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for visitors.

The boating facility is open to people above the age of 10 years, with life jackets mandatory for all passengers. Officials said safety protocols have been put in place, and trained staff will supervise boating operations.

Boost to Tourism During Amarnath Yatra

The launch comes as the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra gathers momentum, bringing thousands of pilgrims to Jammu, which serves as the primary gateway to the Himalayan shrine.

Officials believe the new attraction will encourage pilgrims and tourists to spend more time in the city, giving a boost to local tourism and businesses while showcasing Jammu’s developing riverfront infrastructure.

Amarnath Yatra Continues Under Tight Security

Meanwhile, the third batch of Amarnath pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Saturday under multi-layered security arrangements. At the same time, the second batch of devotees began their trek from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam towards the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir.

Security forces have deployed a comprehensive security network across the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the pilgrimage routes to ensure the safe movement of devotees.

Medical Facilities Strengthened Along Yatra Route

To deal with medical emergencies during the pilgrimage, the Health Department has established 10 first-aid centres along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and deployed six advanced life-support ambulances at strategic locations.

In addition, voluntary organisations have set up round-the-clock medical camps equipped with oxygen cylinders, essential medicines and ambulance support to assist pilgrims throughout the yatra.
