Teacher Suspended for Alleged Misconduct in Rajouri School

Jammu: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Friday placed a government school teacher under suspension for alleged misconduct on school premises.

Action After Inspection Report

The Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Rajouri ordered the immediate suspension of a Teacher Grade-III posted at Government Primary School Lanjhar, Zone Moughla.

According to an official order, the action followed a report from the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Moughla. During an inspection on February 18, the teacher was allegedly found in an intoxicated condition on school premises during working hours, affecting the academic environment.

Prior Notice and Complaints

The order stated that the teacher had earlier been served a notice seeking an explanation regarding absence from duty and alleged consumption of liquor during school hours. However, authorities observed no satisfactory improvement in conduct.

Written complaints were also reportedly received from staff members, parents, and members of the public alleging misbehaviour, harassment of staff, negligence in teaching duties, and conduct unbecoming of a government servant.

Suspension Pending Inquiry

Terming the allegations as grave misconduct and a violation of service rules, the CEO ordered suspension under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, pending a departmental inquiry.

During the suspension period, the teacher will remain attached to the office of the Zonal Education Officer, Khawas, and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules.

Authorities noted that similar instances of misconduct by teachers have surfaced in various districts in the past, including cases of physical punishment of students. The government has reiterated that there is no provision for physical punishment in educational institutions and that strict action will be taken against violations.
