New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely disrupted on Friday following a technical fault in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, affecting more than 400 flights from multiple airlines, including IndiGo and Air India.
IndiGo Airlines posted on X that “the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) issue impacting ATC operations is still being resolved,” adding that delays may continue across Delhi and several northern airports until the system is fully restored.
Air India Express also confirmed disruptions, stating, “Our teams are actively assisting guests at the airport and working closely with the authorities to minimise delays.”
Delhi Airport Issues Advisory; Passengers Face Long Delays
Delhi Airport, in a public advisory on X, informed passengers about the ongoing problem:
“Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. The ATC team is working with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve it at the earliest.”
Passengers reported extended waiting times both inside terminals and onboard aircraft. One passenger told IANS that cabin crew requested travellers to remain patient while technical teams worked to fix the glitch.
Separate from Earlier Connectivity Issue
Earlier this week, Delhi Airport had experienced minor disruptions due to third-party connectivity issues that affected check-in systems, though that problem was resolved by Wednesday.
Friday’s ATC glitch, however, is unrelated and has had a far wider impact on flight schedules.
Airlines have advised passengers to monitor flight status updates closely and reach the airport well in advance of their scheduled departures. Authorities continue to work to restore full operational efficiency at the airport.
