New Delhi: Tech giant Google announced the launch of the Google News Initiative (GNI) AI Skills Academy in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) here.
The initiative aims to arm Indian newsrooms with the knowledge and tools necessary to succeed in an increasingly AI-driven media landscape.
“Continuing our efforts to work with news organizations across India and bring them Google’s cutting-edge technology, we’re excited to introduce the Google News Initiative AI Skills Academy in partnership with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Department of New Media,” Google stated in an official release.
The training will be a 10-week, hybrid program designed to give newsrooms and media educators a solid understanding of AI fundamentals and practical skills.
Participants will learn to utilize Google’s AI tools such as NotebookLM, Gemini, AI Studio, and Pinpoint to enhance workflows, improve efficiency, and dedicate more time to creative, in-depth storytelling and research.
This program, launched through a partnership with IIMC and supported by How India Lives, will empower attendees to apply AI across various relevant use cases. It will include weekly deep-dive sessions, hands-on exercises, dedicated mentorship, and problem-solving workshops, all aimed at helping media professionals adopt AI tools effectively.
Google also expressed pride in supporting IIMC’s efforts to train media educators and students across its six campuses in India.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward equipping media professionals and educators with vital AI expertise.
