Tejashwi Yadav Announces Raj Bhavan March on August 19 Over Siwan Firing

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Working President and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday announced that the party will march to Raj Bhavan, now Lok Bhavan, in Patna on Wednesday over the Siwan student-protest firing.

Tejashwi appealed to students, young people and the general public to join the march and demanded answers from the Bihar government over the use of an AK-47 during the protest.

    Tejashwi Questions AK-47 Use

Addressing a press conference at his residence, Tejashwi questioned who authorised the use of the weapon during the student protest.

He sought details of the police unit and armoury from which the AK-47 was issued, who approved its deployment for crowd control, which unit the accused constable belonged to and who ordered the firing.

He also questioned why Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha had not been suspended and demanded details of the ammunition used during the incident and the Home Department’s role in the deployment and monitoring of weapons.

    Demands Judicial Probe

Tejashwi alleged that three people from Siwan were injured in the firing during the protests and claimed that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary did not visit them while they were undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Patna.

He also questioned why the Bihar government had not ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The RJD leader demanded action against the Siwan SP, saying that merely transferring the officer would not be sufficient.

    Opposition Targets Government

Tejashwi linked the Siwan controversy to broader issues involving alleged paper leaks, unemployment, recruitment irregularities and the education system in Bihar.

He alleged that the state continues to face problems related to unemployment, migration, education, healthcare and corruption.

Tejashwi also criticised Union Minister Kiren Rijiju over his remarks on the firing and alleged that the Centre and state government were attempting to mislead the public and politicise the student issue.

He further alleged that student leaders were being arrested to weaken the August 19 mobilisation and urged the government to address their grievances instead of suppressing the protests.

    Tejashwi Meets Protesting Students

After the press conference, Tejashwi visited the Gardanibagh protest site, where candidates involved in the TRE-4 agitation were demonstrating.

He met the protesting students and leaders and urged the Bihar government to address their demands immediately.

The August 19 march is expected to bring together Opposition supporters and students around issues including examination transparency, unemployment, recruitment and police accountability, with the Siwan firing controversy emerging as the central political issue.
