Telangana Assembly Session Begins Today, Security Tightened Amid BJP ‘Siege’ Call

Hyderabad: Security has been tightened around the Telangana Legislative Assembly as the Assembly session begins on Monday, September 7, amid a call by the BJP to “seize” the Assembly over various issues.

Heavy police deployment has been put in place around the Assembly premises, with personnel stationed at key entry and exit points and other sensitive locations. The security measures have been stepped up in anticipation of the BJP’s planned protest.

The Assembly session is set to bring the ruling Congress and opposition parties face-to-face, with several issues expected to be raised during the proceedings.

Heavy police deployment outside Telangana Assembly

Police have increased security around the Assembly complex ahead of the session and the BJP’s protest call.

Personnel have been deployed at strategic points, including entry and exit routes, as authorities prepare for possible demonstrations around the legislature.

The BJP has called for a protest to “seize” the Assembly as part of its agitation over various issues, prompting the administration to strengthen arrangements in and around the premises.

Revanth Reddy reviews Assembly session preparations

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had earlier informed ministers and MLAs that the Assembly session would begin on September 7.

During a meeting at the Secretariat on August 25, the Chief Minister reviewed development programmes in various Assembly constituencies and discussed pending works.

Revanth Reddy directed legislators to expedite land acquisition for irrigation projects, stressing that several projects could not be completed unless the required land was acquired on priority.

He assured MLAs that the government would provide funds for land acquisition, Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) measures and obtaining forest clearances.

Congress government focuses on pending development works

The Chief Minister also directed legislators to pay greater attention to development works in their respective constituencies and ensure that pending projects and programmes are completed without delay.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka attended the meeting along with government Whips and several MLAs.

Whips Adi Srinivas, Ramachandra Naik, Birla Ilaiah and Vemula Veeresham were also present.

Several legislators and members of Parliament also participated in the meeting as the government reviewed constituency-level development and preparations ahead of the Assembly session.

With the session beginning amid the BJP’s protest call, security arrangements are expected to remain tight around the Telangana Assembly as political activity intensifies in Hyderabad.
