Telangana reels under intense cold wave conditions

Telangana is currently reeling under a severe cold wave, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in many places. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Adilabad recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Record low temperatures in many areas

Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded a minimum temperature of 7.9 degrees Celsius. Patancheru near Hyderabad recorded a low of 9.2 degrees Celsius, while Rajendra Nagar and Hayat Nagar on the outskirts of the city recorded temperatures of 10.5 and 12.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Temperatures remained well below normal

Minimum temperatures in Adilabad, Medak, and Patancheru were 3.1 to 5 degrees Celsius below normal. Temperatures in Hanamkonda, Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Ramagundam, and Rajendra Nagar were 1.6 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal.

Temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius in 12 districts

Temperatures were recorded below 10 degrees Celsius in a total of 12 districts. Eight districts recorded temperatures between 10.1 and 11 degrees Celsius, while the remaining districts recorded minimum temperatures between 11.1 and 14 degrees Celsius.

Cold winds affecting public life

People are facing significant inconvenience due to the cold winds blowing across the state. The cold weather persists from night until around 11 am. The cold is particularly severe between 7 am and 11 am and 5 pm and 7 pm.

Traveling difficulties faced by Sankranti travelers

People traveling to their villages to celebrate Sankranti are facing difficulties due to the severe cold. Thousands of families traveling from Hyderabad to various parts of Telangana and neighboring Andhra Pradesh have been affected by the cold.

Cold conditions to continue for the next three days: IMD

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions will persist for the next three days due to lower-level winds blowing from the east and southeast. Temperatures are expected to remain between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius during this period.

One of the coldest winters in the last decade

According to weather data, the winter of 2025 has been one of the longest and coldest winters for Telangana in the last ten years. The number of cold wave days in December was unusually high.

Record Cold Wave Days in December

The state experienced 18 cold wave days in December 2025, far more than the only two in December 2024 and the highest in the last ten years. This month also saw two severe cold waves.

Cold Wave Extends Beyond North Telangana

In addition to northern districts, such as Adilabad, which are typically considered the coldest, this time districts in central Telangana—Sangareddy and Medak as well as the western outskirts of Hyderabad were also hit by prolonged periods of low temperatures.
