Hyderabad: The Telangana government is preparing to introduce a Night Time Economy (NTE) policy in Hyderabad, with a formal rollout in the coming months. Officials have already begun surveying key areas in the city to implement the initiative; it aims to boost Hyderabad’s economy and bring it at par with global cities like London, New York and Berlin.
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, while speaking to India Today TV, said the policy/night time economy pipeline will provide “night-time governance” and smart regulation, which will be crucial for the city’s development. “Night Time Economy is a key project to accelerate Hyderabad’s quest to become a global city; night-time governance and smart rule-making will be the key to growth,” he said.
The plan also includes collaboration with ride-hailing platforms like Uber, Ola, wherein special geo-tagged pickup and drop points will be set up within designated night zones. NTE will also allow economic activity to expand beyond traditional business hours.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to make a formal announcement. Officials believe that this initiative will make Hyderabad a vibrant nightlife hub as well as create new opportunities in the hospitality, retail, entertainment and mobility sectors, thereby boosting the city’s economy.
