Tensions Escalate in West Asia: US Launches Airstrikes on Iran; Kuwait also attacked

The ongoing conflict in West Asia shows no signs of abating. Alongside the continuing standoff between the United States and Iran, unrest is also being witnessed in Israel and Lebanon. In the latest developments, Iranian President Pezeshkian reportedly announced his resignation. However, a statement issued by Iran’s state media in Tehran has denied these reports of a resignation.

International media reports monitoring the ongoing conflict in West Asia have also surfaced with news of protests taking place within Iran. In the capital, Tehran, large numbers of irate citizens were seen taking to the streets. There are also reports that several people were injured during these protests directed against the United States.

Israeli Attack in Southern Lebanon

Eight people were killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon. The casualties include three women. Meanwhile, Israel has claimed that rockets and missiles were fired toward its territory from Lebanon, all of which were intercepted before reaching Israeli airspace. The head of the Arab League condemned Israel’s aggression against Lebanon and called for an immediate ceasefire. Britain’s Foreign Secretary also criticized Israel, stating that its actions in Lebanon have undermined the scope for diplomacy.

US Launches Airstrikes on Iran

The US military has announced that it has carried out airstrikes targeting Iranian radar and drone command facilities. This action was taken following Tehran’s downing of a US MQ-1 Predator drone. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were conducted in response to Iran’s aggressive activities. The attacks specifically targeted Iran’s drone control and radar installations.

In a statement, the US military’s Central Command confirmed that it conducted strikes in the Iranian cities of Goruk and Qeshm. These attacks were directed at Iranian radar and drone bases. The United States stated that Iran had recently targeted one of its MQ-1 drones while it was operating in international waters. These attacks were carried out in retaliation. The US military stated that they targeted Iran’s air defenses, ground control stations, and drone bases.

Kuwait Claims: Air Attacks Launched Against It
Kuwait has claimed that its air defense systems intercepted drones and missiles heading toward the country. During these attacks, sounds of explosions were heard in several parts of Kuwait—sounds which the Kuwaiti military attributed to the interception operations. Amidst rising tensions in the region, security agencies remain on high alert.
